Fatherhood Initiative Graduates Call on 100+ Men

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – The Parent, Teacher, Student Association (PTSA) of Shaw High School, in East Cleveland, is calling on 100+ men to help welcome students back to school on Monday, August 22. The non-traditional PTSA is made up of all men, who are graduates of the Cuyahoga County’s Fatherhood Initiative—a program designed to help men become more involved in their children’s lives.

“A father’s involvement in his children’s lives is very important,” said Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative Administrator Aldonis Grimes. “Research shows father involvement is essential to promoting good classroom behavior, better grades, and higher educational attainment levels.”

In addition to welcoming children to school, the fathers and father-figures in attendance on Monday are encouraged to make a solid commitment to dedicating themselves to family, supporting their children financially, spiritually, and emotionally, and building clean and healthy communities. The doors at Shaw High School will be open to participants between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.

The Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative also sponsors a Fathers Walk each year that draws thousands of fathers who walk their children to school.
