Adoptable Kids
Adopting a child can be a rewarding and lifechanging experience. The Division of Children and Family Services is looking for families or single adults from all backgrounds who want to give a safe, loving, permanent home to children who need a family.
- Most children waiting for adoption are African American and Caucasian children ages 10 and older.
- Many are sibling groups who need to stay together, teenagers, or children who have special needs (including physical, emotional or mental disabilities).
- Adoptive families can include relatives, single parents, and same sex couples.

Shawnea
May 2006Shawnea is a very active girl who enjoys playing basketball and other sports. Shawnea enjoys interacting with her peers but she also enjoys her alone time. Shawnea enjoys music and interested in learning how to play an instrument. Shawnea enjoys the outdoors and interacting with animals, she recently learned how to ride horses and it has become one of her favorite hobbies. In addition, Shawnea enjoys crafts such as drawing, painting, and making collages with magazine photos. Shawnea has recently expressed interest in culinary arts and would like to become a chef.
Shawnea likes school and enjoys learning. She enjoys outings and watching basketball. Shawnea has been faced with many obstacles in her life, and the special family for her must be willing to learn how to meet her needs and be willing to accept a lifetime commitment with stability.
