Training Opportunities for Caregivers
The Division of Children and Family Services offers in-depth training to help you better understand and meet the needs of children and families in challenging situations.
We provide this training to:
- Staff members.
- Foster, adoptive, and kinship caregivers.
- Community partners.
North Central Ohio Regional Training Center
The North Central Ohio Regional Training Center is one of eight Ohio Child Welfare Training Programs offering high quality training programs for child welfare staff, foster and adoptive parents, and caregivers.
The Center offers both in-person and web-based courses. In-person classes are designed to accommodate every schedule, with day, evening, and weekend courses available. You must be 21 to register, and no children under 18 are permitted.
Foster and Adoptive Parent Pre-Service Training
- Total of 24 hours of pre-placement training, divided into 12, two-hour sessions.

Summer 2024 Caregiver Calendar
Foster Parent College – Online Training
- Interactive multimedia training course for foster and adoptive parents, kinship caregivers, and biological parents.
- Learn valuable information, insights, and advice on dealing with serious child behavior problems.
- Instructor-led and self-paced courses available 24/7.
- Unlimited access to a course-related discussion board where foster parents can ask questions, offer suggestions, and share experiences with others.
- Licensed/approved caregivers can earn training credit for participation with prior approval from the DCFS Resource Management Department. Training units are currently assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Just in Time Training
- Our JITCuyahoga website connects foster and kinship caregivers to essential resources online.
- Free training for Cuyahoga County DCFS caregivers and support staff.
- Just in Time provides access to a Learning Management System that offers a library of over 200 courses available 24/7 online.
- 18 Course topics to provide caregivers with tools and education they need- from Attachment to Working with Birth Families.
- Certificates are issued upon course completion to meet Caregiver Continuing Education requirements and are always available for access in the LMS portal.
- Live webinars are offered for caregivers to attend and ask presenters questions.
- Allows you to “Request a Training,” if you’re unable to find a specific training topic of interest.
